The building houses construction workers, according to Russian-appointed officials
At least seven people have died in a fire at a temporary housing building for construction workers in Sevastopol, on the Crimean peninsula, Russian-appointed officials said this morning.
Citing local law enforcement agencies, Russian state news agency TASS reported that the fire, which broke out overnight in the building on the outskirts of Sevastopol, was caused by a short circuit in an electrical device.

Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula, recognized as Ukrainian territory by most countries, from Ukraine in 2014. Kyiv has said it plans to retake it by force.
Mikhail Raznozaev, the Russian-appointed governor, said the fire broke out in a two-story home housing construction workers on the Tavrida highway, a new arterial road linking Sevastopol and Simferopol, on the Crimean peninsula.
At the time the fire broke out, a total of 185 people were in the small two-story building, the Russian news agency RIA reported at the same time, citing local first aid services.

Russia’s Investigative Committee, which investigates major crime cases, said it had launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and that its investigators were working at the scene.
The fire had been extinguished this morning, Raznozaev also announced in a Telegram post.
According to the information, two workers were taken to the hospital.
