Taiwan is “exclusively China’s internal matter” and cannot be compared to the war over Ukraine, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said, calling on the US to stop meddling in the matter.

The USA they should stop mixing in taiwan case, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said today, responding to statements by CIA Director William Burns.

The director of the CIA warned yesterday Thursday that Xi Jinping’s “ambition” should not be underestimated regarding Taiwan, despite China’s president saying he was alarmed by how Russia’s military fared in Ukraine. Burns said the U.S. “knows” through “gathering of intelligence” that Xi has ordered the Chinese military to be ready to invade Taiwan by 2027. “That does not mean he has decided to order an invasion.” in 2027, or any other year, but it’s a reminder of how serious his focus is and his ambition,” said the CIA director, speaking at a foreign policy event at Georgetown University (Washington).

Taiwan it is “exclusively China’s internal matter” and it cannot be compared to the war over Ukraine, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning at a press conference in Beijing.

Washington should “stop meddling in the Taiwan affair and stop creating new factors that could lead to tensions across the Taiwan Straits,” Mao said.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also accused the government in Taipei of bearing responsibility for tensions, which have risen since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. People in the US are using the Taiwan issue to contain China, he claimed.

Washington should fulfill its commitments not to support Taiwan’s independence, Mao said, adding that Beijing regards Taiwan and its 23 million people as “an integral part of China’s territory”.

Taiwan, which was never part of the People’s Republic of China, considers itself independent. The US remains committed to the island’s defense, including the supply of weapons, and rejects any violent change to the status quo as unacceptable.

The latest criticism of US policy on Taiwan comes as Anthony Blinken is expected to arrive in Beijing the day after Sunday for the first visit by a US secretary of state since October 2018.

As Burns spoke yesterday, the Pentagon announced that a Chinese spy balloon was flying at high altitude over sensitive US military installations.
