Ukrainian forces say they have repelled a new attack on Bakhmut

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned tonight in his videotaped daily address that the situation on the front lines is getting tougher and that Russia is throwing more and more troops into battle.

Today, a day after several Western countries promised to supply Ukraine with longer-range weapon systems than it currently possesses, the country was once again the target of Russian bombing. However, Ukrainian forces say they have repelled an attack on Bakhmut, which the Russians have been trying to capture for months.

“The enemy is regrouping in certain zones. It is focusing its efforts mainly on Kupyansk, Liman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Novopavlivka,” in eastern Ukraine, according to the defense ministry.

During the night, rockets hit Kramatorsk, while in the morning Avdiivka was targeted by Russian artillery.

In the last 24 hours, in Zaporizhia province alone, shells hit political infrastructure in 26 communities, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Bombing also continued in Kherson, the large city in southern Ukraine that the Russians captured at the beginning of the war but then abandoned.

In Bakhmut, the Ukrainians assert that they repelled “an attack by the invaders” and drove them out of the suburbs.

“This week the Russian occupation forces concentrated all their efforts on the encirclement of Bahmut and launched a fierce attack on the Port sector. But thanks to the resistance of our soldiers, they failed,” said Undersecretary of Defense Hana Maliar.
