“Today the people spoke. His verdict is clear and honors both me and those who worked for my candidacy”, said the candidate for the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus Andreas Mavroyianniswho first of all warmly thanked the thousands of compatriots, as he said, “for the support, the trust and the clear mandate to continue the same path with ethics and honesty to raise our country higher”.
The independent candidate, who is going to claim the highest office of the Republic of Cyprus together with the also independent candidate Nikos Christodoulidis next Sunday, February 12, said:
“I also want to thank my partners, the volunteers, AKEL, the organized movements as well as the hundreds of personalities who supported my candidacy. In this effort that we started together, no one is left out. The love for our country removes the dividing lines and unites us. Belief in the solution of the Cypriot problem on the basis of the bi-zonal bi-communal federation makes us a fist and mobilizes us. Commitment to the goal of a healthy, robust economy and concern for citizens transcends all our differences. That’s why I also look you in the eyes and ask you to fight this battle together for the imperative today and also for tomorrow, which I am convinced will dawn hopeful for our country and for our people”.
When asked by a journalist if he will have contacts with DISY and other forces, Mr. Mavroyiannis replied that they will have contacts with all the democratic forces of the country and they will see how things will go.
Finally, when asked by a journalist if he expected this result when he started this trip, he answered: “I think this was our goal, we achieved it and we are satisfied.”
