He is the current head of the military intelligence service
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, who is under pressure after the revelation of a corruption scandal in his ministry, will take up another government office, the head of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s party announced in parliament this evening.
The current head of the military intelligence service (GUR) Kirill Budanov will take over as the new defense minister.
“War dictates the movement of personnel,” David Arahamia explained in a Telegram post. “Times and circumstances call for strengthening and reconstruction. This is happening now and will happen in the future (…) The enemy is preparing to attack. We are preparing to defend ourselves and recover what is ours,” he added.
Arahamia did not specify when Reznikov will leave the ministry and what position he will take.
Earlier, in his daily address, President Zelensky reiterated that the situation is “very difficult” in the Donetsk region, where heavy fighting is taking place, but made no mention of the minister’s removal.
