Putin sent separate messages of condolence to Erdogan and Assad, while saying Russia was ready to offer aid to both countries.
Russian President Vladimir Putin he offered his country’s help in Syria and Turkey, which were hit by a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake, killing more than 670 people and injuring thousands in both countries.
Russia, a close ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, maintains a significant military presence in the country. Putin also has good relations with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Please accept my deep condolences for the many human losses and widespread destruction caused by a strong earthquake in your country,” the Russian president wrote in his message to Erdogan.
“We are ready to offer it necessary help in this direction,” he added.
Separately, Putin stated to Assad that Russia shares “the sorrow and pain of those who lost their loved ones” and has already indicated that Moscow is ready to provide assistance to Damascus.
Earlier the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that the Russian military infrastructure in Syria have not been damaged by the earthquake.
