Macron and Meloni discussed aid to Ukraine and EU industrial policy

France and Italy’s joint military aid to Ukraine and strengthening the EU’s industrial policy ahead of the summit on February 9 and 10 were the main topics discussed by French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

As announced by the Elysee, during their telephone conversation, Macron and Meloni welcomed the joint Franco-Italian initiative to strengthen the Ukrainian army with the SAMP/T-MAMBA anti-aircraft defense system and confirmed the intention of the two countries to continue strengthening the Ukraine in cooperation with European partners and allies.

The French president and the Italian prime minister also referred to the issues of strengthening European industrial policy, European responses to the energy crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as well as immigration.

The French president also spoke today, as announced by the Elysee, with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. He expressed France’s solidarity with the Armenian population and the humanitarian nature of their needs.

Emmanuel Macron expressed to the Prime Minister of Armenia his support for France in terms of his country’s security and his intention to work to find a sustainable political solution to the region’s problems through dialogue.
