Mr Zelensky, who met with his staff earlier yesterday, announced new appointments of commanders at the fronts, “especially at the border and in the front-line areas”, speaking of “leaders with military experience” who can “defend more effectively against current threats”.

Ukrainian forces in the eastern city of Bakhmut, which have been trying to capture Russian troops for months, continue to repel their repeated assaults, “we are resisting them,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his daily taped address released today after midnight.

He expressed his “gratitude” to “every soldier who shows determination in the resistance.”

He also announced that new units of the National Guard, the police and the border guard are being formed.

Due to the escalation of Russian attacks, the Ukrainian army has been forced to reinforce the fronts with at least part of the forces it earmarked for counter-attacks in the near future.
