Israeli forces killed a 17-year-old Palestinian during a raid in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced.

The teenager, Hamzeh al-Askar, was shot in the face by Israeli soldiers conducting an operation in Nablus at dawn, the ministry said.

At the moment the Israeli army has not commented on the incident.

The Palestinian armed group “Lions’ Den” announced that its members exchanged fire with Israeli forces, which “invaded a residential area”.

The group said the teenager who was killed was from the Askar refugee camp, near Nablus, but did not say if he was a member.

Also today, Israeli forces arrested at least 18 Palestinians in the northern part of the West Bank, in the town of Burgin near Jenin, an organization defending the rights of Palestinian prisoners announced.

The new raid by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank comes at a time when fears of a new escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are growing, after the escalation of violence observed since the beginning of the year.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health noted that at least 42 Palestinians — civilians and insurgents — have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers since January 1.
