New Zealand police found the drugs in the middle of the ocean, during a joint operation with the customs service and the Navy
A quantity of 3.2 tons of cocaine, with an estimated value of almost 300 million euros, was found floating in the mid-ocean in the Pacific Ocean, the authorities of New Zealand, during a joint operation with the customs service and the Navy.
A photo released by police to the media from “Operation Hydros” shows the cargo before it was hauled in nets that appear to be holding buoys afloat (center photo).
The New Zealand police announced that the drugs must have been thrown into the sea by an international cartel and were destined for the Australian market.
The authorities retrieved and confiscated the incredible “fish”.
The amount of drugs seized is “one of the largest” New Zealand authorities have ever found, New Zealand police chief Andrew Koster said in a press release.
The seizure deals a serious blow to organized crime but we will “remain vigilant”, especially given where traffickers can go to “avoid attracting the attention of law enforcement”, he added.
