They claim the same rights that the Serbs have in Kosovo
The political representatives of Albanians and of Bosnian who live in southern Serbia claim the same rights as the Serbs in Kosovo. The principle of reciprocity in the rights of national minorities was invoked openly for the first time by the representative of the Albanians in the Serbian parliament, Seib Kemberi, and the leader of the Bosnian Party of Democratic Action (SDA). Suleiman Uglyanin, during the meeting they had – three days ago – in Pristina with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.
“We cannot sit idly by and watch the formation of special standards that will only apply to some ‘heavenly’ minority (Serbians) in northern Kosovo,” Camperi said after meeting with Albin Kurti.
It is noted that in the municipalities Presevo, Buyanovac and Medveja in southern Serbia the Albanians are a majority. THE Cybe Campery stated that Albanians claim: “representation in state bodies, proportionate to the ethnic composition of the population in southern Serbia, the right to have their own symbols (flag, emblem), to use the Albanian language and script officially as well as to be recognized degrees obtained at universities in Kosovo”.
Special status is also claimed by Bosniaks in southern Serbia, who are the majority in the municipalities of Novi Pazar, Tutin and Sienica. These efforts are spearheaded by the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), which holds two of the five seats in the Serbian parliament that were held by minority Bosniak parties. SDA leader Suleiman Uglyanin today sent a letter to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell and US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar. In this letter he asks “to put in the process of negotiations for Kosovo and the request to ensure to the Bosniaks of Serbia a similar status to that which the Serbs of Kosovo have”.
