The famous theater and film actress from Serbia, Branka Veselinovic, passed away yesterday at the age of 105.
Born in 1918 in Stary Betsey, she turned 104 years old on September 18, 2022 and was awarded the title of the oldest actress in the world.

She acted in more than 100 plays and films, and her theatrical career is mainly associated with the Yugoslav Drama Theater (JDP), where she continued to perform even after her retirement in 1978.
The award-winning actress played her last role in a production of Marin Držić’s Skup in 2007.
In the theater she also met her husband, her colleague Mladzo Veselinovic, with whom she remained married for 64 years, until his death.
Together with her husband they created a center to help children with disabilities and for her humanitarian work, she became an honorary ambassador of UNICEF.

“Actress Branka Veselinović’s distinguished life, humanitarian work and dedication to theater and theater art forever marked an era and the history of the Yugoslav Drama Theater (JDP),” said JDP director Tamara Vuckovic Manoilovic.
Branka Veselinović was a member of the JDP since the theater was founded in 1947. With her death, there is no longer a living member of its famous theater group, which was made up of the best actors from all over the former Yugoslavia, among them, there were also the legendary Marija Chernopori and Mira Stoupitsa.
