President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) arrived in Washington this Thursday (9) for a lightning visit with the main objective of meeting with the American Joe Biden this Friday (10). This is the PT’s second international trip in his third term.
Biden, who maintained a cold relationship with former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) –an early supporter of Donald Trump–, has been rehearsing a rapprochement with Lula since the election.
The movement is based on affinities in themes such as the environment and the defense of democracy – mainly after the coup attacks on January 8, in Brasilia, associated with the invasion of the Capitol in the United States. The expectation is that Biden will announce his intention to inject resources into the Amazon Fund, according to the text of the joint statement that was negotiated between the countries.
On issues related to China and the War in Ukraine, the rulers hold divergent opinions.
In this Friday’s episode (10), Café da Manhã talks with reporters from Sheet Patrícia Campos Mello, who traveled to Washington to accompany the visit, and Thiago Amâncio, US correspondent.
They talk about the expectations of Lula’s visit, discuss the topics that should occupy more space on the agenda and analyze the impacts of the trip on the relationship between the two countries.
The audio program is published on Spotify, streaming service partner of Sheet in the initiative and which specializes in music, podcast and video. You can listen to the episode by clicking above. To access the application, just register for free.
