The Itamaraty said this Saturday (11) that it will repatriate 17 Brazilians and their families who sought the Brazilian embassy in Ankara, the Turkish capital, because they were affected by the earthquakes of the last 6th.
According to a note from the ministry, the people will arrive in Brazil this Saturday, at the Galeão air base, in Rio de Janeiro.
The return will take place aboard a FAB (Brazilian Air Force) KC-30 aircraft, which carried the humanitarian mission of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, coordinated by the Itamaraty itself and by the ministries of Defense, Health, Justice and Integration.
Brazil had sent rescue teams, as well as equipment and medicine to help Turkey after the earthquake that hit the country and Syria.
At least 42 professionals, including 34 firefighters from São Paulo, Minas Gerais and EspÃrito Santo, left for the Middle Eastern country on a Brazilian Air Force aircraft. There were also doctors and members of the civil defense.
Humanitarian aid also included six tons of equipment to help with the search and four sniffer dogs to collaborate with operations to locate earthquake victims.
Three sets of so-called “calamity kits”, which each contain 250 kg of medication and emergency items, were also donated by the Ministry of Health —they have the capacity to serve up to 1,500 people for a month.
Turkey already accounts for more than 20,000 deaths after the tremors.
