The victory of Nikos Christodoulidis is “locked in” – A new President of Cyprus emerges

With 56.2% of the votes counted, Nikos Christodoulidis receives 52% and Andreas Mavroyiannis 48%.

The Christodoulides candidacy was the one that gathered 204,633 votes against 189,592 received by Andreas Mavroyiannis according to the first results of the Presidential Elections that took place today in Cyprus.

The ceremony of announcing the new President of the Republic of Cyprus will take place at 22:00 at the Tassos Papadopoulos – Eleftheria stadium.

The final attendance rate was 72.45%.

A total of 406,626 people voted.

With 56.2% of the votes counted, Nikos Christodoulidis receives 52% and Andreas Mavroyiannis 48%.

561,273 citizens went to the polls today to elect the 8th president of the Republic of Cyprus, in the 13th elections of the country.

Andreas Mavroyiannis and Nikos Christodoulidis faced off in the second round of the Presidential Elections, having received percentages of 29.59% and 32.04% respectively last Sunday.

The 561,273 voters were invited to go to the polls today as well, with the hope that the percentage of 27.96% who abstained last Sunday will register a decrease.

The polls opened at 7.00 am. and will remain open until 12 noon. After an hour break they opened again from 1.00 pm. until 6.00 p.m.

In exceptional cases, the presiding officer of each polling station may extend voting hours, if necessary, until 9:00 p.m. at the latest, provided that he/she waits outside his/her polling station to a large number of voters vote.

It is noted that the voting hours at the polling centers abroad had been adjusted in such a way that the voting would end there at 6.00 pm, Cyprus time.
