Israeli troops killed a 17-year-old Palestinian today during a clash with gunmen in the occupied West Bank, health officials and witnesses said, while the army said it shot a person holding an explosive device.

The Palestinian Health Ministry described the victim, who was killed in the Farah refugee camp near Nablus, as a 17-year-old male.

Eyewitnesses said the young Palestinian was killed during a clash with Israeli soldiers, but it remains unclear if he was involved.

The army announced it had entered Farah as part of a wider operation in the West Bank to arrest suspected militants and seize their weapons.

“A suspicious person approached soldiers with an explosive device, soldiers responded by opening fire,” the military tweeted.

Dozens of Palestinians, including members of armed groups, have been killed in the West Bank in recent months in Israeli military operations, which escalated after a series of anti-Israeli attacks in the spring that killed a total of 20 people.
