Cancellations and delays in hundreds of flights around the world and chaos at German airports has been causing since the morning the collapse of the Lufthansa airline’s IT system. There are no landings at Frankfurt Airport.

The company, with its announcement on Twitter, informs the public about the problem and explains that the Check-in process will be done without an electronic systemwhich however it is absolutely necessary for aircraft take off.

Furthermore, domestic flights in Germany have been canceled and passengers are being instructed to travel by rail. According to Lufthansa, the extent of the problem has not yet been determined nor can the time required to restore system operation be predicted.

In order to relieve the main hub, in Frankfurt, no landings are made at the city’s airport and aircraft are diverted to the airports of Nuremberg, Cologne and Dusseldorf.
