To strengthen the Commission’s cyber security, the Commission’s internal management board decided to suspends the use of the TikTok application on its official devices, as well as on personal devices registered with the Commission’s mobile device service.

This measure is intended to protect the Commission from threats and actions against cyber security, which can be used for cyber attacks against the Commission’s official environment, says a related announcement. Security developments on other social media platforms will also be under constant review.

The measure is consistent with the Commission’s strict internal cybersecurity policies regarding the use of mobile devices for work-related communications. It complements the Commission’s long-standing advice to staff to implement best practice when using social media platforms and to maintain a high level of cyber security awareness in their day-to-day work.

The Commission is committed to ensuring that its staff are adequately protected against increasing cyber threats and cyber incidents. Therefore, it is our duty to respond as early as possible to potential cybersecurity alerts, the statement said.

Today’s suspension of use of the application is an internal service decision, strictly limited to the use of devices registered with the Commission’s mobile device service.
