Justice will be served when the leadership of the Russian state and the Russian army are held accountable for the war against Ukraine, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at an international conference on the issue held yesterday in the city of Lviv.

“And when they are held accountable, justice will be served,” Zelensky said in his video message last night.

Zelensky emphasized “the responsibility of Russia and its leadership – personal responsibility – for aggression and terror against our country and our people.”

Ukraine has been trying for months to set up an international tribunal to hold Moscow’s leaders accountable for war crimes. The Lviv meeting was attended by high-ranking representatives from Europe and the USA. Security was tight and few details were released.

“We are gathering maximum support for a court on Russian aggression against Ukraine,” Zelensky said. “We are doing everything we can to ensure that the International Criminal Court succeeds in punishing Russian war criminals and that our national law enforcement and judicial authorities secure fair sentences for all Russian murderers and torturers.”
