Dozens of Iranian schoolgirls in five provinces were admitted to a hospital with symptoms of poisoningaccording to local media.

Hundreds of cases of respiratory distress have been reported in the past three months among students mainly in the city of Qom, south of Tehran, with some requiring hospital treatment.

Tasnim and Mehr news agencies reported that this new wave of poisonings involving schoolgirls was recorded in western Hamedan province, as well as Zanjan and West Azerbaijan in Iran’s northwest, Fars in the south and Alborz province in the north.

Dozens of schoolgirls have been taken to local hospitals for treatment, local websites reported, according to the Guardian website, adding that they were all in a generally good condition.

Yesterday, Friday, President Ibrahim Raisi said he had asked the Ministers of Intelligence and Interior to investigate these cases of mass poisoning, describing them as “a conspiracy of the enemy to create fear and despair among the people”.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said the investigation into the poisonings is one of the government’s immediate priorities, to ease the concerns of families and hold perpetrators accountable.”

Last Wednesday, at least 10 girls’ schools were targeted, seven in the northwestern city of Ardabil and three in the capital, Tehran, according to media reports.
