In a statement issued by the Armenian authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh, they said that a group of “saboteurs” of the Azeri army opened fire on a police car of the Armenian administration.
At least three people were killed and one wounded in an exchange of fire in Nagorno-Karabakh today, Armenian authorities said in the Caucasus region claimed by the separatists and Azerbaijan.
In a statement issued by the Armenian authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh, they said that a group of “saboteurs” of the Azeri army opened fire on a police car of the Armenian administration.
“Three police officers were killed,” the source said, adding that a fourth was wounded by a bullet in the chest and taken to hospital.
For its part, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan denied this version, saying that there were exchanges of fire after trying to control vehicles allegedly carrying weapons from Armenia to the Karabakh zones under the control of Baku.
“They opened fire on Azeri soldiers, the exchange of fire resulted in deaths and injuries on both sides,” the ministry said without giving an account.
According to this source, the incident took place on a road connecting the community of Lisagor (Turtsu in Azerbaijani) with Stepanakert, the capital of the Armenian separatists.
For its part, Armenian diplomacy described Azerbaijan’s explanations as “absurd”, saying it did not present any evidence to substantiate the alleged arms transfer.
