The actress and activist caused strong reactions Jane Fonda following her remarks on “The View” on Friday, where she said women may have to resort to “murder” to regain control over their bodies after the Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court.

Speaking on the show to promote her new film with Lily Tomlin ‘Moving On’, the Oscar-winning actress made the controversial comment when the hosts asked her what she could do besides marches and protests to stop the spread of restrictions on abortion in many states. The 85-year-old answered “so, I thought about murder”. “Murder,” she repeated sharply, when Tomlin asked her to repeat her answer.

“We have experienced, for many decades now, having power over our bodies and being able to determine when and how many children we will have,” Fonda said, agreeing with Tomlin’s statement that “we’re going back.”

“We know what that’s like. We know what this does to our lives. We’re not going back. I don’t care what the laws are. We’re not going back” he repeated with determination.

The comment was met with bewilderment by the panel and the backlash, mostly of Republican origin, was fierce, with some accusing the 85-year-old actress of inciting violence against politicians who favor the right to life of the fetus. Fonda clarified that she was joking and that women’s reproductive rights are an extremely important issue to her.
