“I shouldn’t have said that,” the US president said
New Biden blunder… The US president accidentally revealed on Monday that former Pres Jimmy Carter asked him to deliver his eulogy when he died. “I shouldn’t have said that,” the US president said.
Biden, 80, made the accidental statement during a Democratic Party fundraiser in Santa Fe, California, while speaking about the health of Carter, who entered palliative care at his home on February 19.
“I spent time with Jimmy Carter and eventually (the disease) caught up with him, but they found a way to keep him in good shape for a lot longer than they expected because they made great progress,” Biden told an audience of about 40 guests, according to The Hill site. “He asked me to do his funeral,” Biden said, then added: “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.”
Biden’s comments about the 98-year-old former president’s condition came toward the end of his speech as he announced a government initiative to tackle cancer with more funding for the Healthcare Advanced Research Projects Agency.
Carter is the oldest living former US president. In recent years he has faced many health problems, including a melanoma that metastasized to his liver and brain.
