The total value of the undeclared gifts, as owed, is more than $250,000, “excluding” foreign gifts to Trump family members
The family of the former president of the USA Donald Trump he did not declare more than 100 foreign gifts, which he had to declare because the value of each of them is above a predetermined limit, while the total value of these gifts is greater than 250,000 dollarsannounced yesterday, Friday, Democratic MPs.
Those gifts, many of which came from foreign leaders, are detailed in a report by House Oversight Committee Democrats. They include a set of books by President Xi Jinping of China and egilded golf clubs which had been offered to Trump by the then prime minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.
The 15-page report notes that Trump also did not declare one silk carpet worth $12,000 from the president of Uzbekistan Savkat Mirziyagev and a $35,000 manual with handle from ivory which Qatari leader Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had offered him.
One portrait A larger-than-life bust of Trump, which had been donated by El Salvador’s president Naguib Bukele, was also not located by the commission, according to its report.
The whereabouts of some of the gifts, including the portrait, is unknown, the Democrats said.
“Democrats on the committee are committed to finding the ultimate whereabouts of these expensive gifts that have gone missing,” said Jamie Raskin, D-Maryland, who led the congressional investigation, adding that Democrats also want to “find out whether these gifts can be were used to influence the president’s foreign policy.”
Raskin also said the Commission’s findings shine a light on the Trump White House’s “brazen disregard for the rule of law and its systematic mishandling of large gifts from foreign governments.” The non-declaration of these objects is against the law, he underlined.
Donald Trump’s entourage did not respond to requests for comment on the report. .
This long list also includes foreign gifts to its members family of Trump, such as Melania Trump, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.
Kushner had received a sword from Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Ivanka Trump had received a $1,200 teddy bear from Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, as well as a mother-of-pearl portrait of her given to her in 2017 by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Ivanka Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner, was the architect of Donald Trump’s Middle East strategy.
The report adds that the Committee of the House of Representatives is also looking for other records.
