After 12 hours of talks in Ohrid, North Macedonia, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said a meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti had reached “some kind of agreement” on the roadmap for implementing the EU’s proposal to normalize relations Belgrade-Pristina.

“We agreed on some points, not everything. This is not the final agreement,” Vucic told reporters in Ohrid. Although there are still some disagreements, he noted that the talks with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti were “decent”. He also said that Serbia’s path to EU membership would depend on the implementation of the agreement.

The talks were held behind closed doors in the presence of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and the EU Special Envoy for the Pristina-Belgrade Dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak.

European foreign policy chief Josep Borrell told reporters that the negotiations had been difficult, but an agreement had been reached. Pristina agreed “to start immediately – and when I say immediately, I mean immediately – negotiations, in the framework of the dialogue under the auspices of the EU, to define a specific arrangement and guarantees with a view to ensuring an appropriate level of self-governance for the Serb communities in Kosovo.” , he said.
