It was no surprise that the Finland will become a member of it NATO before the Swedensaid Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson asked about it during the joint press conference they gave with the president of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen after the Donors’ Conference on Turkey and Syria that took place in Brussels.

“A few days earlier we were aware of the fact that there was a possibility of this happening,” Mr. Christerson noted (according to the English translation) and added that “Finland and Sweden wanted to join NATO together. We have said this on many occasions, but we also knew that each of the 30 NATO member countries had to make their own decisions. This came as no surprise. It was not our choice but of course we respect Turkey when we reach the decision”.

“Sweden is a safer country now than before, and we all believe that it is good for the security of the region that Finland is joining even before Sweden is joining. But we believe that we will join very soon,” Ulf Kristersson pointed out.
