Fourteen pro-Iranian fighters were killed by US airstrikes in eastern Syria in response to an Iranian drone strike that killed one American and wounded six others.

According to the Pentagon statement, the “precision strikes” targeted a weapons depot in the city of Deir Ezzor. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that six militants were killed in this attack. As many others were killed by strikes near Bukamal and two in a raid on positions of pro-Iranian organizations near Mayadin.

Nine of the 14 dead were Syrians, the Observatory added.
