It was 10:13 (local time) when police raised the alarm at Covenant School after reports of shots fired. Strong police forces cordoned off the area and asked the parents who rushed to the scene, worried about the fate of their children, to stay at a safe distance.

Nashville police spokesman Ron Thomas elaborated that the attack was launched by a teenage girl, the details of which have not been made public so far, which she was armed with two assault rifles and a revolver. She was surrounded by five policemen and fell dead from their fire.

Authorities said of the incident: “We are responding to an active shooter at 33 Burton Hills Blvd Covenant School. We can confirm that we have many patients. Parents coming to school should go to 20 Burton Hills at this time,” the Nashville Fire Department said on Twitter.

About 200 students attend this private school. They are preschool through sixth grade students who were bused to Woodmont Baptist Church, two miles from campus, to meet their parents after the incident.
