THE Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said today that he raised concerns about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine during an earlier meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and urged him to talk to Kiev.

Sanchez told a news conference in Beijing that he told Xi that Madrid supports the peace plan proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in November, which includes demands to restore Ukrainian territories to the status that existed before Ukraine’s annexation of Crimea. Russia in 2014.

“I conveyed our concern about the illegal invasion of Ukraine”Sanchez said, adding that he “urged Xi to talk to (Ukrainian) President Zelensky” to learn firsthand about Kiev’s peace plan.

“I believe it is a plan that lays the foundation for a sustainable peace in Ukraine and is fully in line with the United Nations charter and its principles, which have been violated by (Russian President Vladimir) Putin with his invasion,” he stated. Sanchez also stated that his country wants one “balanced relationship with China”.

“Spain wishes to push for a balanced relationship with China based on reciprocity”Sanchez said, adding that a China-Spain tourism forum will be held in June.
