Capitol Invasion: A Black Anniversary of American Democracy – The Biden Message

by

Today marks one year since the shock invasion of the Capitol by thousands of far-right supporters of Donald Trump, a fact that has deeply taken hold of American institutions and democracy. Referring to the events today, President Biden attacked his predecessor, saying that he is a constant threat to American democracy.

Wednesday, January 6, 2021. The Capitol is ravaged by runaway and armed supporters of Donald Trump.

The foundations of modern American democracy are being shaken as the House ratifies Joe Biden’s election victory.

The defeated president, who for days encouraged his supporters to be fierce during the protest that day, watched the invasion from a few meters away and for a long time in a cheerful mood.

Scenes of absolute chaos unfold inside the Capitol.

The senators run to hide to protect themselves from the crowd of fanatics, conspiracy theorists and the far right who decided to dismantle everything believing that Joe Biden had rigged the election.

Armed agents guard the doors.

For hours the situation is out of control.

Under pressure, Trump is urging protesters to leave.

Eventually, the Capitol building was evacuated by special police forces.

American society, the whole planet, is in shock. Joe Biden talks about a dark day in history.

Four Trump supporters and a police officer were killed and 140 people were injured.

A year later, the rioters who starred are facing serious charges, while some have already been convicted.

The infamous QAnon shaman was sentenced to 41 months in prison for his role in occupying a public building in the US capital.

And while no one can answer for sure if the trauma in democracy has healed, the findings of two polls are troubling as they show that 1/3 of Americans justify the use of force against government in order to defend the outcome of an election.

Strict Biden message

Meanwhile, Joe Biden from the Capitol, in a speech that is described as a warning about how vulnerable the American democracy is, referred to Donald Trump by name and accused him of putting a knife to her throat.

Similarly, former US President Jimmy Carter said that we face a serious risk of civil conflict and the loss of democracy.

For his part, Trump attacked Biden, accused him of political theater, of using his name to further divide America, and opened fire on justice.
