London, Thanasis Gavos

His stated intention to visit the island of Ireland on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday peace agreement will be implemented by US President Joe Biden.

Having Irish roots, the American leader has repeatedly expressed his public interest in developments on the emerald island and has not hesitated to take sides in the Brexit negotiations involving Northern Ireland.

According to information, on the evening of April 11, Catholic and Protestant Easter Tuesday and the day after the anniversary, he will arrive in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

According to Politico, he will, among other things, visit the local parliament of Stormond, which has been suspended for more than a year after the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) left the coalition with Republican Sinn Fein.

The DUP made this move in response to the Northern Ireland Protocol accompanying the Brexit deal.

On the 12th of the month, the American President will travel from Belfast to Dublin, Republic of Ireland. The move will probably be by road so that President Biden can also visit the Cooley Peninsula which is in the middle of the route. This is the area where Owen Finnegan’s great-great-grandfather lived before immigrating to the US.

He will stay in the Republic of Ireland until April 15. During this time he is also expected to visit Ballina in County Mayo, where the other half of his family is from.

Mr. Biden will likely be accompanied by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
