Television cameras will not be allowed in the Manhattan courtroom, where former US President Donald Trump will be presented today to be charged, following a judge’s decision.

In the room five photographers will be allowed entrybut the TV cameras should stay out while journalists attending the proceedings will not even be able to bring a laptop with themJudge Juan Mercan decided late yesterday, Monday.

“Never in the history of the United States have charges been brought against a sitting or former president,” he said in his ruling, noting that the process has generated “unprecedented public interest and media attention.”

News organizations such as the New York Daily News had asked Merchan to allow reporters full access to the proceedings.

The Manhattan attorney general’s office did not comment, but Trump’s lawyers asked the judge to deny the press groups’ request, saying it would create “a circus-like atmosphere.”

At the same time, they expressed their concern about security and stressed that the former president is worried that “the increased presence of the press will inevitably result in bias.”

In New York in the last 24 hours, 35,000 police officers have been on foot, while metal fences have been erected around Trump Tower. Roads have also been blocked with the mobilization of secret services being, at the same time, huge.
