NATO foreign ministers continue their meeting for a second day with the participation of Finland, which just became the alliance’s 31st member after Helsinki abandoned decades of neutrality following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Sweden, which submitted a request at the same time and is a candidate for membership but has not yet secured Turkey’s approval, is participating as a guest.
Envoys from Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea are also participating in the meeting.
After Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow, the allies will consider “China’s growing alignment with Russia,” North Atlantic Treaty Organization Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg summed up.
