According to the Kyunhla activist group, which is at the scene, at least 20 children were killed and 50 people were injured.
Families had traveled from nearby villages for the event, where tea and food were offered and which coincided with the start of Thingyan New Year celebrations, according to CNN. The new municipal office was opened under the authority of the shadow National Unity Government (NUG), for the people, as part of the resistance against the junta.
At the time of the attack dozens of people were inside the office and as a result they met a horrible death.
