A serious problem is faced by the villages of Crete which unable to find children to sing praises on Good Friday!

“It is true that small villages of the Archdiocese do not have small children and are facing problems. Our villages are old. Unfortunately, I know villages where the youngest inhabitant is 60-70 years old”, Father Zacharias Adamakis, president of the Clergy of Crete, says characteristically in Cretalive.

He states that villages such as Galatas, Humeri, Sambas, Voni, Archontiko have suffered great damage from the earthquake of September 27, 2021, they are completely leveled, and of course the inhabitants have completely abandoned them.

However, the large parishes of Heraklion do not seem to face this problem, while in the villages where there are no children and young girls “the cantors will sing the praises while there are also some ladies who do not know Byzantine music, but they accompany the cantors and are very nice” notes Father Zacharias.

He also emphasizes that in the village of his origin, Galata, many residents who live permanently in Heraklion return to the village on these Holy Days and participate, as anyone can, in the choir that sings the praises.
