At least 97 dead and hundreds injured in clashes in Sudan, according to doctors
The Sudanese military announced on Monday that the forces they regained control of him of the building of the national radio and television station in the capital Khartoum.
In a statement, the military said the broadcasts would continue, without giving further details.
Hostilities between the army forces under General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group of General Daglo continue unabated.
On Saturday, RSF reported that its fighters had taken control of the TV building after clashes with army forces.
In another development, the Sudanese military said that former RSF spokesman, Maj Najm al-Din Ismail, defected from the paramilitary force and rejoined the army.
A dispute between the army and the RSF over military reform and security, which envisages the full participation of the RSF in the army, has turned into a bloody conflict in recent months.
The dispute between the two sides came to a head last week when the military said recent movements of RSF forces were uncoordinated and illegal.
Tensions escalated with clashes in the capital Khartoum and surrounding areas on Saturday, with at least 97 people killed and hundreds injured, including two Greeks who were slightly injured.
Sudan has been without a government since in October 2021, when the army ousted the transitional government of Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok and declared a state of emergency in a move denounced by political forces as a “coup”. Elections were scheduled for early 2024.
At the same time, the anxiety continues for the 15 Greeks who remain trapped in the Metropolis of Sudan who are living dramatic hours as the conflicts rage in Khartoum.
Their testimonies about what they experience inside the Metropolis they are dramatic. According to the main SKAI news bulletin, among the trapped are three children aged 9-10 years as well as two sisters who managed to talk by phone with their parents who are also trapped inside their homes, very close to the Metropolis.
