NATO’s secretary general said today from Kiev that his priority is the Ukrainian military victory over Russia, while the issue of Ukraine’s accession to the Atlantic Alliance will be discussed in July during the NATO summit.

“Ukraine’s future lies within the Euro-Atlantic family, Ukraine’s future lies within NATO. At the same time, the main goal of the Alliance, of the allies, is to ensure that Ukraine wins,” said Mr Jens Stoltenberg at his side Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said for his part that it is time for NATO to make a political decision to invite Ukraine to join the military alliance and that Kiev wants to know when it will join.

Ukraine’s president said at the joint press conference that July’s NATO summit in Vilnius would be “historic” and that he was invited to attend.

“I am grateful for the invitation to visit the summit, but it is also important that Ukraine receives the corresponding invitation,” he said.

“There is not a single objective obstacle to making a political decision to invite Ukraine to join the alliance, and now, when most people in NATO countries and the majority of Ukrainians support Ukrainian admission, it is time for the corresponding decisions” , said Volodymyr Zelensky.
