At least one dead, and an undisclosed number of injuries, is the account of a fuel tanker explosion on Connecticut’s Gold Star Memorial Bridge, bringing traffic to a standstill on the interstate as the fire spread to nearby buildings.

Huge clouds of black smoke rose after the explosion caused by unknown circumstances. It is not known if the driver of the tanker, which overturned and exploded, is the deceased.

Emergency services are working to put out a fire in Groton, Connecticut, after a vehicle overturned Friday morning. New London Mayor Michael Passero confirmed that one person was killed in the incident, but did not provide further details.
