A Melbourne court has acquitted Novak Djokovic of wrongfully revoking his visa. The Serbian tennis player remains in Australia.
The decision, which came out shortly before 8:30 am Greek time (noon in Australia), ruled that the revocation of the visa of the Serbian tennis player, who had been banned from entering the country because he had not been vaccinated, was wrong.
The lawyers of “Nole” claimed (submitting a 35-page memorandum) that the revocation of the visa was illegal, as the athlete had recently fallen ill and therefore had the right to travel to the country, based on what the tennis players had been informed by the competent authorities.
The judge decided to reactivate Djokovic’s visa, to release him from the detention hotel where he had been for the last five days within 30 minutes of the announcement of his verdict, but also to cover the costs of the trial by the Australian government.
However, even now the participation of the nine-time winner of the Australian Open in the Grand Slam of Melbourne, which starts on January 17, is not 100% given.
As pointed out by the Australian media, the Minister of the Interior of the country, Karen Andrews, has the right to ban the presence of the athlete in the country and to … demand his departure.
