White House domestic policy adviser Susan Rice is leaving after two years in the position, the president announced today Joe Bidenpraising her efforts on health care and immigration issues and noting her “historic” role as the top adviser on domestic policy and national security issues in two different administrations.
“After more than two years of steady coordination of the Domestic Policy Council, it is clear: there is no one more capable and more determined than the Susan Rice to get the things important to the American people done,” Biden said in his announcement.

As the only person to have served in both Councils, Internal Policy and National Security, Rice “wrote history” the US president added. He recalled that his choice to put her in charge of his domestic policy priorities “surprised many,” while pointing to her efforts on health care, police reform, gun control, reducing student debt and of immigration.
Rice’s departure comes as Biden prepares to formally announce, possibly as early as Tuesday, that he will run for a second term as president. 2024.
Biden had announced that he would appoint Susan Rice as his top domestic policy adviser before even taking office in January 2021. He had also considered the possibility of nominating her as his 2020 running mate.
