The death toll from the Ukrainian shelling on the night of Saturday to Sunday against a village in Russia’s Bryansk region has risen to four dead, the governor of the region, Alexander Bogomaz, announced.

Ukrainian missiles hit the village of Suzemka, about ten kilometers from the Russian-Ukrainian border, according to Mr Bogomaz. “Four civilians were killed,” the governor said via Telegram.

The initial count was two dead. Rescue crews recovered two bodies from the wreckage of the destroyed house, Mr. Bogomaz explained.

Communities and infrastructure in Russian regions along the border with Ukraine, notably in Bryansk and Belgorod, are frequently hit by strikes attributed to Moscow in Kiev. Last Saturday, electricity was cut in five villages in Belgorod due to Ukrainian artillery fire.

Ukraine has rarely publicly claimed responsibility for attacks on Russia or areas of its territory overrun by Russian troops after they invaded more than 14 months ago.

Both sides deny targeting civilians.
