Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke by telephone late last night with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison about the Djokovic case and called for the Australian authorities to treat the best tennis player in the world fairly.
“Ms Brnabic asked her Australian counterpart to do everything in her power to ensure that Novak Djokovic is treated humanely and with dignity in Australia for the duration of his stay and that all his rights are respected.” refers to the announcement issued by the office of the Prime Minister.
Anna Brnabic reiterated the Serbian government’s intention to provide all possible guarantees for Djokovic to stay in Australia, if necessary. The Serbian Prime Minister stressed “the importance of securing training and physical training conditions for Novak Djokovic, as he was not allowed to train in the previous days and the tournament in Melbourne starts this weekend”. The prime ministers of the two countries agreed to contact again in the coming days to discuss the issue in detail.
Novak Djokovic was acquitted by a Melbourne court yesterday and allowed to enter Australia. The Serbian tennis player has already started training and said he is satisfied that he will be able to participate in the ustAustralian Open΄΄.
His family members gave a press conference in Belgrade yesterday, where they described the court ruling as a victory for justice. Novak’s brother Jorge Djokovic found himself in a difficult position in the interview.
When asked if Novak really got sick on December 16, given that he made public appearances on December 17, he replied somewhat awkwardly that “all the documents he submitted are public and legal.” After that the press conference was interrupted somewhat abruptly and the members of the Djokovic family left.
