Another Downing Street scandal: Johnson had another pandemic party

by

The target of new criticism and police investigation is the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson after it became known that more than 100 people were invited to a party organized in the garden of Dowding Street in May 2020, amid a lockdown.

According to several British media, the party was attended by 57-year-old Johnson and his wife Carrie Simmonds, as well as about 40 employees on Downing Street, at the invitation of Martin Reynolds, personal secretary of the British Prime Minister.

“After a very busy period we thought it would be nice to make the most of the good weather and drink socially secluded drinks in the number 10 garden tonight,” the invitation said. “Please come from 18:00 and bring your drinks!”, You add.

British police confirmed on Monday that they were “in contact” with the government over the case, which could be the subject of an investigation into breaches of health rules.

Most schools in Britain were closed at the time of the party, as were restaurants and pubs, and there were strict rules for social interaction. In fact, the relatives of those who died from covid-19 could not say goodbye to their own. Police had set up checkpoints in some areas and were intervening to disperse the party.

The new revelation adds to allegations of a series of parties allegedly taking place on Downing Street in December 2020, which have provoked strong public reaction and criticism from Labor leader Kir Starmer, who has said that Johnson does not have the moral authority to lead the country.

When asked about his presence at the party, Johnson simply smiled and referred to the investigation being conducted by Sue Gray, which is examining allegations of at least five parties allegedly being organized by various government agencies during the pandemic.

British Health Minister Edward Argar told the BBC today that he understood “the anger, sadness and upset that many may feel about these revelations”.

But he added that it was “important” to allow the Downing Street merger investigation to be completed before any conclusions could be drawn.

The Labor Party stressed that the prime minister would be “in a very difficult position” if it turned out that he had attended one of the parties during the lockdown and therefore “violated the rules and possibly the law”, as stated by Ed Miliband.
