One day after the crisis caused by the statements of the French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanen, about the “inability” of the Italian Prime Minister to manage immigration.
THE Prime Minister of France Elizabeth Bourne today called for a “cool dialogue” between Paris and Rome, a day after the crisis caused by French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin’s comments about the Italian Prime Minister’s “inability” to manage immigration.
“I would like to say again that Italy is an essential partner of France, that our relationship is based on mutual respect and that we will favor discussion, a cool dialogue, to continue working together,” Bourne told reporters.
After her meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre de Croix, Bourne was asked by members of the press whether her government would apologize to Italy.
“I absolutely agree, and for us too Italy is an important partner,” de Croix commented after his French counterpart’s brief reply.
Darmanen said yesterday that Georgia Meloni was “incapable of managing immigration” and Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani immediately canceled a planned visit to Paris. Today he called on Darmanen to apologize for his statements.
