In a historic day for Britain, King Charles III and Queen Camilla were crowned today at Westminster Abbey in a glittering ceremony attended by 2,300 guests.
Blue bloods, heads of state, officials descended on London to watch the coronation ceremony after 70 years. Among the guests was the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakkelaropoulou.
King Charles III, who succeeded his mother Queen Elizabeth after her death last September, was anointed with holy oil and swore the royal oath before the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, placed the St Edward’s Crown on his head, shouting “God Save the King”.
The king also vowed to preserve the Protestant religion in the United Kingdom and to preserve the rights of the Church of England as defined by an act of Parliament.
“Your Majesty, the Church, which is under your guidance, is committed to the realization of the Gospel and in this regard desires an environment where people of every faith, of every denomination can live freely. The oath has been around for centuries and is of course governed by law. Do you wish to take the oath?
Wish!
Do you promise and swear to me to govern the people of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and Great Britain, as well as all other territories according to their respective laws and customs?
I promise to do it!’
His Majesty swears to govern the people with justice and mercy, and to uphold the Anglican Church of England and the Presbyterian Church of Scotland.

Soon after, his wife of 18 years, Camilla, was crowned queen. The 75-year-old queen, who is divorced from her first husband, is the second wife of Charles, who was married to Princess Diana, from whom he divorced in 1996.
Prince William, in turn, pledged allegiance to King Charles during the ceremony at the Abbey. Specifically, he knelt before his father, after his official coronation, put his hands between those of King Charles and recited the words, also known as Homage of Royal Blood.
After the coronation the royal couple left the Abbey in the golden carriage, heading to Buckingham Palace in the golden carriage which was built 261 years ago. It weighs four tons and can move at a walking pace. This carriage has been used at every coronation since 1831.
In the second carriage following was Prince William with Kate Middleton and their children.
At the same time, tens of thousands of citizens had lined the procession route from Buckingham Palace to the abbey, with many camping there for days to ensure a good view of the parade.
4,000 members of the armed forces and 19 military bands participated in the glittering parade with flawless formations.
According to the British Ministry of Defence, it was the largest military parade in 70 years. It was attended by 19 military bands, 250 horses, 4,000 members of the Armed Forces, while 33 Commonwealth countries were represented.

Kate Middleton and the three children stole the show
Kate Middleton and Prince William arrived with their two youngest children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis at Westminster Abbey for the coronation of King Charles and stole the show.
The Princess of Wales, who was resplendent, was dressed in white but like other members of the royal family wore a royal cloak. In her hair she had a white gold crown like crown and her hair was pulled up.
The couple were followed by their two youngest children little Princess Charlotte who was also dressed in white with a cape and a small crown like crown in her hair and little Prince Louis who seemed to be… trying hard to keep up with the rest.
On the other hand, Prince George had an important role in his grandfather’s coronation and wore a formal outfit, but he also appeared more unruly than his sister Charlotte, whose behavior was impeccable throughout the ceremony.
Casual look from Prince Harry
Prince Harry appeared particularly cheerful and relaxed at the ceremony. He arrived alone at the Abbey after his wife Meghan Markle did not attend the ceremony.
Prince Harry wearing civilian clothes but always with their medals pinned sat in the third row in the Abbey watching the ceremony with particular attention.
The glittering ceremony ended with the appearance of the royal couple and the entire royal family on the Buckingham balcony to greet the cheering crowds.
