Significant turbulence ensued and the crew of five “lost control of the aircraft and lost altitude”
Russian Sukhoï Su-35 fighter harassed the manufacture Polish aircraft on a mission for Frontex over the Black Sea, causing the pilots to temporarily “lose control” of the aircraft, according to a statement issued by Warsaw today.
Last Saturday night, Romania, which was the first to report on the incident, spoke of “absolutely unacceptable aggressive behavior” by Moscow.
According to the Polish border guard, the Russian aircraft “entered without any radio communication the operation area designated by Romania”, carrying out “aggressive and dangerous maneuversapproaching on three occasions the aircraft of the Polish border guard without the necessary safety distance”.
Consequently, significant turbulence occurred and the five-man crew, including two pilots, “lost control of the aircraft and lost altitude”.
After the incident, the Polish vessel landed safely in Romania.
The incident is “another proof of Russia’s provocative approach to the Black Sea,” the Romanian Defense Ministry said in a statement last night, criticizing the “repeated dangerous maneuvers” of an “irresponsible” Russian pilot.
According to the statement, the Polish aircraft, which was not armed, was on patrol to detect possible irregular migrants and was about 60 kilometers east of Romanian airspace, in international airspace. He is operating in Romania from 19 April to 17 May as part of an operation organized by Romania and coordinated by Frontex.
