More than 100 firefighters with 20 vehicles attempt today to put out a huge fire which has manifested in seven-storey building in central Sydneynear the main train station, and expanding to others.

“The building is collapsing, while the fire is beginning to spread to neighboring buildings, including apartment buildings,” New South Wales state firefighters, who have cordoned off the area, said in a statement.

Television images showed firefighters trying to put out the blaze while a parked car was also engulfed in flames.

Burning debris has also fallen on the roof of a neighboring building, according to television images.

“Terrible fire in Surry Hills in my constituency. Please stay safe and listen to the instructions of the emergency services,” MP Tanya Plibersek tweeted.

A New South Wales Police spokesman said there were no reports of injuries at this time.
