Investigators leading the investigation into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance reportedly believe there are two more areas in Portugal they can look to for clues in the case, according to the Daily Mail.

Last week, searches took place at the remote Arante Dam in Portugal’s Algarve, which prime suspect Christian Bruckner called a “little piece of paradise” and is 30 miles from where Madeleine visited in 2007 with her parents.

Police said after completing the investigation that they had found a “relevant clue”.

But it is now understood there may be other areas around the holiday resort where Madeleine stayed with her family where police may be looking for clues after German detectives searched more than 8,000 photographs belonging to Bruckner.

A source told the Sun: “German officers have seen over 8,000 photographs belonging to Christian. This forensic work led them to the dam – but there are other places that have turned up in the photos.

“Detectives are trying to find out where they are and why Christian was taking pictures of these places,” he said.

Last week, researchers cleared a large area of woodland in the reservoir and dug eight deep holes to collect soil samples, which have been sent for forensic and DNA testing in Germany.

The same source also said German police believe the initial investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance by Portuguese police was flawed.

“German detectives remain extremely skeptical about the way the investigation was conducted in Portugal and therefore want to continue to investigate and examine areas – even those that Portuguese police claim to have examined. They believe the new investigation could unlock new clues that will move the case forward,” he pointed out.
