From today in all of Austria and Saxony one must have a certificate of vaccination or disease (Rule 2G) in order to have access to where until now those who presented a negative diagnostic test could be located (Rule 3G). The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung describes the new situation as a “lockdown for the unvaccinated”.
In view of the implementation of the new measures, in Austria yesterday there was a record attendance of citizens for vaccination, with queues outside the vaccination centers, mainly where the vaccination could be done without an appointment. From today, in addition to the work for which the 3G Rule still applies, one will need a vaccination or disease certificate in order to have access to restaurants, retail, hairdressers, hotels, theaters, concerts, sports events. In addition, the Austrian Government has announced that the vaccination certificates will be valid for a period of nine months and will only be renewed with the grant of the booster dose. For a transitional period of four weeks, Rule 2G will also include those who have already received the first dose of the vaccine and who have a negative molecular diagnostic test result. Access to shops, museums and libraries will only be allowed with an FFP2 mask.
Yesterday, Sunday, 8,554 new cases of the new coronavirus were recorded in Austria, while on Friday they had reached 10,000. On Saturday, immediately after the announcement of the new measures, 10,488 first doses were administered.
The situation is similar in Saxony, Germany’s largest L ,nder, which has a general restriction on access to places and services with the exception of only vaccinated and sick people. Until November 25, only these two groups of citizens will be allowed to enter hotels, indoor restaurants, sporting and cultural events. The new measures, however, have provoked reactions from the Alternative for Germany (AfD), the Liberals (FDP) and hoteliers’ associations.
