Hakan Fidan now takes over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while the Ministry of Defense takes over the Ministry of Defense Yasar Güler, until today the Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces.

The “successor” of Akar

Guler, 69, had been the Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, serving in the position since succeeding Hulusi Akar in July 2018, who was promoted to the position of Minister of National Defense.

Yesterday, he again succeeded Akar, taking over the Ministry of Defense.

Career

Guler enlisted in the ground forces in 1974, which was essentially the beginning of his military career. He spent two years before his enlistment studying at the Turkish Military Academy. In the 10 years since joining the ground forces, he served in various infantry and signal companies, acting as commanding officer of one of them. In 1986 he graduated from the Turkish War Academy with honors and graduated with the rank of sergeant. He was promoted to brigadier general in 2001 and assumed responsibility for the Command of the 10th Infantry Brigade and the Organization and Coordination Department of the General Staff.

4 years later he was promoted to lieutenant general and assumed the duties of the General Staff and at the School of Communications and Electronic Information Systems of the TAF in Ankara. In 2009 he was appointed to a position in the General Command of the 4th Army Corps serving for more than 2 years, this time as a lieutenant general. From 2011 to 2013, he served as chief of intelligence for the armed forces, a post he held before becoming Deputy Chief of Staff in 2013, where he was also promoted to general and became commander of the General Gendarmerie Command in 2016–2017, becoming Commander of Land Forces in 2017. –2018, serving in these positions for a total of 5 years.
